About 30 students who were enjoying their weekend in the dorms were forced to leave the accommodation as soon as they heard the alarm. The university emergency vehicle arrived five minutes after the siren had alerted.

According to a female student lived in Flat 29, the alarm was triggered by the smoke in the kitchen. She said: “Our Indian roommate was cooking her food. But she left the pan on the oven and went missing.”

“It’s not her first time of doing this thing,” she added with a sense of anger.

The fire alarm set off on Sunday was the second time during one week  for the students.  Just one day before, on Saturday afternoon the alarm was triggered. The reason for that is still unknown.

The Broad Lane Court is one of the major campus accommodation of the University of Sheffield. It was built on 1960 with a lot of wooden materials and refurbished over the years.
