Local woman gets her handbag stolen while scooping ice-cream

Two male thieves stole a local woman’s handbag when she was having lunch in No.1 Oriental Buffet on Commercial Street around 3:00 pm this afternoon.

The woman ran out of the restaurant to chase the thieves when she found the handbag was missing. Coming back with empty-hands, she immediately called the police for help. The police arrived in five minutes and asked her and her friend to describe the theft.

The woman said she was leaving for some ice-cream and her friend was at the washroom. It was at that moment that the two male next-table grabbed her bag and walker away. She also said she had all her precious belongings in the handbag, including cash, credit cards, mobile phone, medical cards, home address and keys.

She called her lost mobile phone and left a voice message to the thieves, saying that she had already called the police and urged them to hand over the bag to the police headquarter no later than 5:00 pm.

According to the waitress one of the thieves paid the bill and the other went straight to the exit. The thieves left all their dishes on the table. It seemed they was leaving in a hurry. The police officer took the glass, which was used by one of the thieves for drinking beer, for forensic test.

One witness, a young lady sitting next to the buffet bar said she had a look on the man who took the bag: “He was like five feet fifty.” She also said the man was wearing a red shirt.

The police took the victim and the witness into another chamber for further testimony.
